I thought I would work at M+IT for a few years, get some show experience and move on in the industry. That was my plan, back in 2000. I had spent years as a third-party planner, always attending the show and enjoying it. I had no idea when I started here I would fall in love. My love for the show comes from the fact that I can change this industry a bit every year. As General Manager of IncentiveWorks, I can bring people together, educate them, connect them. Yes, that satisfaction comes with some long hours (I stopped counting years ago), but it’s worth it. My favourite thing each year is standing on the show floor early on opening morning before anyone arrives. There is a sense of promise, enthusiasm and excitement in the air. There’s nothing like it!

As Event Coordinator for IncentiveWorks, I have my hands in everything, from event marketing to organizing volunteers and everything in between. Growing up, my family ran events – some up to 20,000 people! Every part of IncentiveWorks is connected and I love how all the puzzle pieces fit together. My favourite part is being on-site. It never ceases to amaze me how the floor plan printed at my desk all year can turn into a pop-up book that came to life; filled with people learning and making connections.

As a senior independent meeting planner I have attended IncentiveWorks for many years. Last year was the first time I worked the event and it has given me a unique opportunity to plan an event for meeting planners and work with people in the industry on a different level. How many planners can say they have been a long time attendee to the event they manage? Not many. My key responsibilities for IncentiveWorks are to plan and manage the Hosted Buyer Program, the closing party, and parts of the conference.
